Search engine optimisation is an important practice that companies use in digital marketing today. SEO for short, is a process of search engine marketing (SEM) in which a company will try and increase both quality and quantity of the traffic reaching their website and exposure of the brand through the use of non-paid (also known as organic) search engine results. This is done through identifying what a company's customers are searching for, and what words in particular they are using to search for the answers or product they are looking for. Companies will then include more of these words in their content to become more relevant to what the user is looking for and thus, they will appear higher on the search engines results page (SERP).
There are number of benefits of this practice that should be be noted by any person or business wishing to enter the field of digital marketing, for example, it is highly intent driven, your sites and advertisements will not be shown to an audience who isn't interested in your product or service, it will specifically target those who are searching for what you provide.
It can get a company fast results, if the effort is put in and a site ranks high on the keyword list as well as having an engaging site that suitably advertises its product or service, then it will generate a high number of customers and fast, which in turn will also increase brand awareness through word of mouth.
SEO is also a cost effective method for any businesses that are just starting out as it is an organic method of digital marketing, meaning that they do not need to pay for advertisements on other websites and can rely solely on SEO to start generating their first customers, and grow from there.
